Q. How can I maintain my carpet warranty?

For specific information on your carpet warranty, consult your manufacturer.

Q. Why is vacuuming important?

Vacuuming is essential to prolonging the lifespan of your carpet. When you establish a vacuuming routine for your carpet, you're actively helping to remove dirt, dust, and other debris that build up in your carpet's fibers. Said build-up can give your carpet a grungy and weathered look.

Q. Why is cleaning my carpet necessary?

Cleaning your carpet will ensure that it always looks its best. Whether you're vacuuming or addressing spills and stains, by staying active with your carpet cleaning, you can guarantee that it looks good for years to come. Carpet maintenance is easy so long as you keep at it.

Q. How do I clean up common household food and beverage spills?

How to clean each spill is dependent on what the substance spilled actually was. For liquid spills, you should also start by absorbing the substance with a dry cloth. Once the entirety of the liquid has been absorbed, you can obtain another cloth, this time blotting it with warm water. You may also elect to use club soda at this step. Once you have blotted out the stain, absorb the remaining wetness with a third cloth.

For more challenging spills and messes, consult your manufacturer.

Q. How often should my carpet be cleaned?

You should be vacuuming your carpet regularly. How regularly depends on the foot traffic in the room or rooms. Address spills immediately as they occur to avoid lingering damage.

Q. Which professional cleaning method is recommended?

Professionals will often steam clean a carpet, which can be effective. Other cleaning methods include an absorbent pad or bonnet cleaning, rotary shampoo, and dry foam powder. Wet or dry methods, properly done, are acceptable for regular maintenance cleanings. However, hot water extraction is required for most warranty services.

Q. What do I do if regular care does not take care of a particular stain or problem?

Consult your manufacturer.

Q. How do I care for my new laminate floor?

Laminate floors are tough, but they are not all created equal! Some laminate flooring includes waterproof finishes, but others do not, so make sure to follow guidelines and directions from the manufacturer carefully. Below are more tips that we at Shans Carpets & Fine Flooring recommend:

Daily care and maintenance of your laminate flooring may include sweeping, dry mopping, or vacuuming with a hard surface flooring attachment. Most other messes can be wiped away with a damp cloth. Spills should be wiped up quickly to avoid warping.

Q. How do I care for my ceramic or tile floor?

Keep your tile and stone flooring clean by daily sweeping, dusting, or vacuuming to clear away dirt, sand, and grime and keep the surface looking polished.

Unlike hardwood, laminate, or resilient flooring, it’s also recommended to use either steam cleaning or a wet mop at least once a week with a manufacturer-approved cleaner that is also compatible with grout.

Q. How do I care for the grout on my tile floors or walls?

For grout care, make sure you're cleaning your grout weekly. One sure-fire way to clean your grout is by mixing water and baking soda. Take this newly formed paste and scrub your grout with a toothbrush. Once finished, wipe your grout with a clean towel submerged in water.

Q. What is the best way to protect my hard surface area(s)?

  • Area rugs
  • Entry mats at each door
  • Encouraging guests to remove their shoes before walking on your hard surface flooring
  • Proper care & maintenance
  • Furniture protectors
  • Window treatments to handle UV rays

Q. How do I care for my wood floor?

Everyday care and maintenance could include sweeping, vacuuming or dry moping your hardwood flooring. Make sure to check with your manufacturer’s care and maintenance guide, in addition to their list of approved vacuum cleaners, before caring for your flooring. If your flooring needs more than just a dry surface clean, use a manufacturer-approved cleaning solution and follow their guidelines.
